The 1880 US Census for Roslyn, Queens, NY lists Edw. Van Wicklen, 40 (b. NY, both parents b. NY), painter (which census has this wrong...is he a printer or a painter?) with wife Emma, 36 (b. NY, both parents b. NY), keeping house with son, Charles, 11 (b. NY), at school and daughter, Alletta, 9 (b. NY), at school.

Children: Charles^8 Van Wicklen (b. abt 1869), NY; Alletta^8 Van Wicklen (b. Mar 1871), NY. Alletta married Irving Hopkins (b. Jan 1874, NY, printer) abt 1895, NY and they were living with her parents at the time of the 1900 census. By the time of the 1910 US Census, Irving is no longer with Alletta, who is now listed as single and has resorted to using her maiden name.

Note: Alletta^8 Van Wicklen (Edward^7, Jacob^6, Jacob^5, Jacob^4, Garret^3, Gerrit^2, Jentie^1 Jeppes) and Addie^8 Van Wicklen (Peter^7, Peter^6, John^5, Jacob^4, Garret^3, Gerrit^2, Jentie^1 Jeppes) who both have the same great, great grandfather, Jacob^4 Van Wicklen... married brothers. Alletta married Irving Hopkins and Addie married Andrew J. Hopkins. Both families from Jacob^4 on down remained in a relatively small geographical area on Long Island (Wolver Hollow, E. Norwich, Hempstead, North Hempstead).
